Metrotown

In Burnaby British Columbia of Canada, situated southwest of downtown is Metrotown, part of the central business district of the city. In fact, it’s one of the four designated town centers of the city and one of the regional town centers of Metro Vancouver. This vibrant and dynamic neighborhood has a lot of commercial spaces and a population of more than 25,000 residents. The neighborhood’s location is also quite favorable, with Royal Oak & Boundary Avenue located to the east, downtown to the north, and South Slope to the south. And since Metrotown sits at a higher altitude, it provides panoramic views of Vancouver’s metropolitan area and even the peninsula.

One of the most famous landmarks of the area is the Metropolis at Metrotown, which is the second-largest shopping mall in the country and has hundreds of specialty stores, restaurants, and big retailers, so you’ll find everything you might need here. Another landmark here is Central Park Burnaby, a 90-acre that pays homage to the iconic NYC park that it’s named after. The park has a pitch-and-putt golf course, an outdoor swimming pool, and a tennis court, and is a great place for both old and young. Swangard Stadium is also located here and has a soccer pitch along with track and field facilities.

Other amenities and points of interest in the area include the Cineplex multiscreen movie theater, a Great Canadian Superstore, and a Hudson’s Bay.
Even though Metrotown is more famous as an entertainment and shopping destination thanks to Silver City, Station Square, and Crystal Mall, it’s one of the best residential areas, especially for tower-style condo living. You’ll find a lot of commercial buildings, high-rise 1 & 2-bedroom condo towers, and single-family homes here, and with developers aiming to meet the market demand of downsizing baby boomers, you’ll also find new luxury towers with 2 & 3-bedroom suites.

There’s no shortage of schools here either and the 500+ services and shops are all easily accessible by car, bus, or Skytrain. Transit and commute are also fairly easy. Three Skytrain stations serve the area: Metrotown, Royal Oak, and Patterson Skytrain stations. Plus, these stations, along with the Kingsway, provide bus links in all directions.
